You are a citizen of Uganda by birth if you were born in Uganda and one of your parents or grandparents belonged to an indigenous community living in Uganda as of February 1, 1926, as listed in the Constitution. You are also a citizen by birth if you were born inside or outside Uganda and one of your parents or grandparents was a Ugandan citizen by birth at the time of your birth. This means citizenship can pass down through generations. If you qualify under these rules, you do not need to apply for naturalization. The government must recognize your citizenship.

every person born in Uganda one of whose parents or grandparents is or was a member of any of the indigenous communities existing and residing within the borders of Uganda as at the first day of February, 1926, and set out in the Third Schedule to this Constitution; and

every person born in or outside Uganda one of whose parents or grandparents was at the time of birth of that person a citizen of Uganda by birth.
