48.Dismissal of police officers

(1)Subject to this Act, the Police Authority shall have the power to dismiss a police officer of or above the rank of assistant superintendent of police.

(2)The dismissal of a police officer of or above the rank of assistant commissioner of police under subsection (1) shall be subject to the written approval of the President.

(3)The Police Authority shall have the power to dismiss summarily a police officer who has been prosecuted and convicted of a criminal offence.

(4)The police Authority may dismiss summarily a police officer for'

(a)discreditable conduct;

(b)mutinous conduct;

(c)breach of oath;

(d)spreading harmful propaganda; and

(e)negligently causing loss of firearms or ammunition.
